Republican Presidential Debate - Winners & Losers

Those of us that are political junkies probably watched five hours of Republican Presidential Debate on CNN, including the first round Happy Hour Debate for those candidates with little support in the Polls and then the 3 hour Main Round with 11 candidates on the stage.   The process should have been reversed.  Those with less than 5% should have been in the Happy Hour Debate and only those with a better showing in the Polls should have been in the Main Round.  In any case, there were winners and losers.

Clearly, Governor Bobby Jindahl of Louisiana won the Happy Hour Debate.   The others, George Pataki, Rick Santorum and Lyndsey Graham don't matter and really should drop out now.   None of them have any chance of becoming the Republican Party nominee.  The clear winner of the Main Round was Carly Fiorina.  Others that did well in the Main Round were Donald Trump, Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz and Chris Christie.  Jeb Bush had an OK performance; but for someone who is the Establishment Favorite, he should be doing better.  Those that did not do as well were Rand Paul and Mike Huckabee, neither of whom will be the Republican nominee, Ben Carson, John Kasich and Scott Walker, all of whom this Blogger likes; but probably will be gone before the Nevada Primary.

As of now, based on what we have seen to date, the Republican Presidential Nominee is likely to be Trump, Fiorina, Rubio, Cruz, Christie, or Bush, not necessarily in this order.  And, there is a pretty good chance that the VP selected will come from this group as well; though it is possible that Kasich of Ohio could end up on the ticket because he is the Governor of Ohio, a critical state for electoral college purposes and he does have good experience.   It will be good when we get down to the top six because the others just get in the way.  The good news is that Republican Party has a very strong bench, any one of whom would be better for our country than any of the current Socialist Party candidates.

The Socialist Party is so deplete of talent that it can only field a couple of old has beens, Hillarita, Crazy Joe and Goofy Bernie Sanders, the oblivious Senator from Vermont that has accomplished absolutely nothing while serving in office.  The others running in the Socialist Party are not resonating, at least not yet; though if Hilly falters, others may jump in at the last minute.  If nothing else, on the Republican side, we will have some good entertainment in the coming year.
