Going To The Moon - Here We Go Again

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) is preparing for another moon landing.  This time the project is estimated to cost $93 Billion, though government watch dogs claim there will be major cost overruns.  Don't be surprised if once the rocket dust settles, it will probably cost twice as much.  The question is why are we doing this at all.  We have been to the Moon.  We already gained much of the technology that came from it.

We now have the Space Force, which is focused on military applications in space.  That we need to protect our country from hyper sonic missiles that can bring nuclear weapons to our cities in minutes.  We need private investment in satellites related to communications.  No doubt, there are other technological advancements that can come from military applications.  But do we really need to waste billions of dollars sending people to far off planets.  What benefit would there really be unless there is a planet with an atmosphere that is hospitable to human beings.  So far in terms of the planets we know about that are close enough for consideration, but still light years away, none has that atmosphere.

Need I remind my readers that 78 million Baby Boomers are turning 65 at the rate of 10,000 a day for next 15 or more years.  Both Social Security and Medicare are headed toward insolvency with no plan in the place to save them.  We have an illegal alien invasion at our border as millions of poor people enter our country every year since Biden took office that will strain our resources.  We have crime invested inner cities that are full of slums.  We face China and to a lesser degree Russia, Iran and North Korea that are threats to our way of life.

Given all of these priorities, it would seem that spending billions of dollars to send people to other planets is not a good use of our taxpayer dollars unless and until we have addressed all of the other critical needs I have listed.  Politicians feeding at the trough in the Deep State of both political parties have a hard time prioritizing.   And, since we have no Balanced Budget requirement in our Constitution, they just keep borrowing trillions to fund every hair brained schemes to buy votes to stay in power feeding at the trough.

In the next year or so, we will see Americans land on the moon again.  It was exciting in 1969 when it happened the first time.  When it happens again no matter how great the accomplishment, it will be ho hum and given the taxpayer dollars needed to make it happen, we have to question the economic logic of doing it again.   This is not a good use of taxpayers dollars given the other issues we face today.
