Afghanistan - One Year Later

It has been a year since feckless Joe Biden pulled all of our troops out of Afghanistan in a shameful withdrawal that resulted in the deaths of 13 American soldiers and about 200 Afghans by a terrorist attack.  We left both Americans and Afghans that helped us during 20 years of war behind to suffer their fate at the hands of the Taliban.  In addition, we walked away from $85 billion of state of the art military equipment that now is probably being sold to terrorists around the world.

All of that is bad enough; but what is worse is that 20 years after the war and thousands killed, Afghanistan is the same as it was before we went to war.  The Taliban was in charge then and is in charge now.  The Taliban harbored Al Qaeda and ISIS terrorists in their country then and they do so now.  Women had no rights then and they have no rights now.

So after 20 years of war, we left Afghanistan in the exact same position it was in then and is in now.  The good news is that we were able to use "over the horizon" capabilities recently to take out the leader of Al Qaeda.  But we must do more.  We must make it clear to the Taliban that if they continue to harbor terrorists in their country, that their leaders are next.  We don't need to land troops there to get the job done.  We know where they live and can use drones to eliminate them.  We must send a strong message.  We will not tolerate another 9/11 planned from Afghanistan.  At this point, we have no leverage to protect their people or women in particular.  All we can do it protect our people.
