America - What Happened To Our Country

Our Founding Fathers fought the Revolutionary War to establish a free nation, unlike any other in world history, predicated on limited, Constitutional government.   Thomas Jefferson, who wrote the Declaration of Independence and James Madison, who wrote the Constitution feared an over reaching government, which is the reason they created checks and balances in the form of a Legislative, Executive and Judicial branch.   With the exception of the Civil War, which was a national catastrophe, it all worked pretty well until the last 100 years of Socialist Creep.   Since then, Socialist politicians and judges, over the years, have attacked our freedoms, at every turn, to the detriment of our nation and our people.   Today, government intrudes into all aspects of daily life in ways never imagined by our Founding Fathers.   George Orwell's Big Brother is alive and well. 

When this Blogger's grandparents came to America in 1909 from Italy, with no education and no ability to speak English, there was no income tax, no Welfare, no Food Stamps, no Social Security, no Medicare, no Medicaid and no Disability insurance.   It was work, or starve.   And, that is exactly what millions of  immigrants did to build our nation and their personal success. 

The federal income tax was enacted in 1913, which gave government the right to confiscate personal wealth and it has gotten more confiscatory every year since then.   Out of the Great Depression came Welfare and Social Security.   The rest of the the Welfare Nanny State came with Lyndon Johnson's Great Society in 1965.    Ironically, Entitlements that were put in place to help people have actually hurt them.  Welfare has destroyed the Black family, in particular, as 7 out of 10 Black babies are born to unwed mothers living in poverty.   47 million Americans are now on Food Stamps.   Millions more are on Welfare, Medicaid and Disability Benefits.    Socialists have created a culture of dependency as their ticket to power.  It is disgusting. 

Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid are bankrupting our country as we keep adding to our $16 Trillion National Debt with no end in sight.   The notions of both success and self reliance are now derided as somehow evil.   The "rich", necessary to job creation and economic prosperity in our country, are portrayed as greedy and self serving when in fact these same people support charities, the arts and many other worthy causes and pay nearly all the income and other taxes in our country.   Yet, according to Socialists, it is never enough.   If only they can take "just a little bit more", at the expense of our freedom,  life for all would be wonderful.  It is all BS. 

What has happened to our country in the last 100 years?   Yes, there has been progress in spite of government, not because of it; but we are now a rich country facing certain bankruptcy and insolvency.  Socialists have pushed for a more secular society in the last 100 years, rather than the moral values that come from faith and family that built our nation.   We do need to help the physically and mentally impaired; but those that can work, should work, at whatever job they can get, rather than be on government entitlements and the dole. 

Being on Welfare used to be considered shameful because it was an admonition that someone could not care for themselves.   Not any more.  Today, states run ads encouraging people to go on Welfare and Food Stamps.   Clearly, we have lost our way.   We are on a road to moral and national decay and destruction.   Socialism erodes the human spirit.  It is happening in America all around us.
