Obama's Afghanistan War - Another Vietnam

When Socialist President Obama was running for the Presidency he said many times that Iraq was the "wrong war" and Afghanistan was the "right war" presumably because 9/11 was planned by Terrorists, including Osama Bin Laden, based in Afghanistan. The fact is that Iraq and Afghanistan were probably both the right war in our fight against Islamic Terrorism; but now that Obama is the Commander and Chief, both Iraq and Afghanistan are his wars. Blaming everything that happens on President George W Bush is getting really old. Remember members of the Obama Administration refuse to even refer to Islamic fanatics as Terrorists and our enemy. What is with that? France, of all countries, has actually declared war on Al Queda and the US should do the same to clearly identify our enemy.

While American involvement is winding down in Iraq, thanks to Bush policies, it will probably be necessary for the US to maintain some troop level there for years to come to prevent chaos in that country; though it will never be a Western style democracy. For better or worse, given our dependence on foreign oil, the Middle East is a vital interest of the United States, so we must maintain a presence there.

Afghanistan is a different story because of its proximity to Pakistan, an unstable, safe haven for Terrorists and a nuclear power. Afghanistan is quickly turning into another Vietnam under naive and inexperienced President Obama because the President does not understand the long term implications related to the war in Afghanistan. When President Obama naively announced a troop withdrawal as of July, 2011, which had to be rescinded, he signaled to the Taliban insurgents and the Terrorists in Pakistan that all they needed to do is wait us out and continue killing Americans to push the United States out of Afghanistan. As a result of Obama's miscalculations, which are very dangerous, the months of June and July have been the worst in terms of American deaths in the history of the war in Afghanistan.

And then President Obama, the Ditherer and Chief, took 4 months to decide on the troop surge for Afghanistan, which put our soldiers on the ground at risk. The Generals asked for 40,000 troops, which probably wasn't enough. Obama instead approved 30,000 troops, which the current situation demonstrates is surely not enough. The reality is that the President should either announce a permanent presence in Afghanistan for many years to come to prevent the return of the Taliban, or we should get out. Many seem to forget that we are still in South Korea, 57 years after the end of the Korean War and that we still have military bases in Europe and Asia, 65 years after the end of World War II.

Just killing Terrorists in Afghanistan will not bring stability to that country. The strategy we are implementing of limited engagement and announced troop withdrawals is just Viet Nam all over again. I thought we learned that lesson. So unless the United States sees Afghanistan as a long term commitment, it is time to get out. If we do get out, occasionally, we will have to send in Special Forces to take out Terrorist bases and/or use drones, or cruise missiles to do the job; but it is what it is. Ultimately, we would have to make both Afghanistan and Pakistan hell on earth for Terrorists if we abandon our presence in Afghanistan. Sadly, the people of Afghanistan will end up in an endless civil war and or if the Taliban comes back into power women in particular will be subjugated as before unless and until they fight their own battles to end the tyranny. We can't do it for them.

The Socialists in Congress, who never really supported the war in Iraq or Afghanistan are beginning to abandon President Obama. 101 of them in the House of Representatives, including Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, just voted against providing more funding for the war in Afghanistan. The Socialists did this to send a signal to the President and the Taliban that they will not support long term involvement in Afghanistan. This is also an indication of Obama's drop in the polls as Socialists recognize that the President's Socialist Schemes and failures related to the economy and the war will cost them the Congress in November.

President Obama is Jimmy Carter II. Obama is inexperienced and incompetent. It is one thing to bankrupt our country and destroy our economy by enacting higher taxes and more regulation and other Socialist Schemes, which are bad enough. An incompetent President related to foreign policy and our national security is out right dangerous and will result in American deaths. We can't let that happen.

Socialist President Obama is a clear and present danger to the United States, which is a major reason we must elect Conservatives in 2010 and 2012 who support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, a balanced budget, term limits, a strong national defense, including securing our border and fighting Terrorism, real energy independence and health care reform, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values. This is the winning platform supported by the majority of the American people that will once again bring economic growth and jobs to the United States.

Most important, we must sweep these Socialists out of office by electing Conservatives who support the Constitution, as written by our Founding Fathers, not as contrived by the left wing media, Socialists Obama, Reid, Pelosi, former Presidents, Congresses, or the Courts. We must take back our country in 2010 and 2012. We can do it. We must do it to preserve our freedoms, our nation and for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
