Gay Marriage - All About Words

A left wing gay judge in California struck down Proposition 8 enacted by the people of California to ban Gay marriage. Gosh, that was a surprise legal ruling! This was actually the second time Californians voted to ban Gay marriage. While most people have a live and let live attitude concerning Gays, most Americans oppose gay marriage on religious and historical grounds. The sanctity of traditional marriage between a man and a woman has been the bedrock of society for thousands of years and so it should remain. However, rather than seek an acceptable compromise, which could be accomplished by terminology, radicals in the US and Gays insist on the right to "marry", which is opposed by many.

The fact is that this issue is part of the culture war going on in our country. Left wing radicals, most Socialists and the Gay community literally hate the Catholic and Mormon Churches, as well as, conservative Christian churches because these denominations refuse to accept the Gay life style and Gay marriage as normal, as a matter of religious faith. The same would be true for Orthodox Jews and Moslems; but Catholics in particular are the target of Gay activists. It is what it is.

The issue of Gay Marriage really is as much about words than anything else. The word "marriage" should be confined to a man and a woman as has been the case throughout history. If Gays would accept the concept of "partnership", whether civil or religious, rather than "marriage" provided it comes with the same rights, terms and conditions, this positioning is likely to be more acceptable to the majority of Americans. Conservative Christians, Jews, and Moslems will never accept Gay marriage and may also frown on Gay partnerships; but at least this approach would honor the sanctity of marriage between a man and a woman and be more tenable. Frankly, the United States is bankrupt. Dealing with deficit spending and trillions in debt is far more important than the Gay marriage issue.

The Gay marriage issue has been politicized and the fact that a gay judge struck down the will of the people is obviously of concern and the bigger issue. There are left wing judges in the US that regularly ignore the Constitution and the will of the people. This case will go to the Supreme Court for final resolution, which is really a waste of time. The obvious solution of gay partnerships should be the compromise position. Marriage is a legal partnership anyway. What is humorous in this discussion is that with joy of "partnership", whatever it is called, comes the potential for the misery of court directed divorce including alimony, child support and custody and splitting of assets. Why shouldn't Gays in America get to experience horrible, painful, divorce court just like heterosexuals. Gays should be careful what the ask for because they might just get it.

And, the notion that a Gay male would refer to his partner as a husband, or that a lesbian would refer to her partner as a wife just makes everyone, who is not Gay, feel uncomfortable. Personally, I find this positioning more humorous than offensive. It just makes no sense in terms of the English language, if nothing else. The term "partner" in either case is well established and should be mutually acceptable to most people. It is just more logical.

The culture wars and left wing radical judges are another reason we must sweep the Socialists out of office in 2010 and 2012 by electing Conservatives who support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, a balanced budget, term limits, a strong national defense, including securing our border and fighting Terrorism, real energy independence and health care reform, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and marriage and family values. This is the winning platform supported by the majority of the American people and the only way to economic growth and job creation.

Most important, we must elect Conservatives who support the Constitution, as written by our Founding Fathers, not as contrived by the left wing media, Socialists Obama, Reid, Pelosi, former Presidents, Congresses, or the Courts. We must take back our country in 2010 and 2012 including dealing with various social issues that are destructive to our nation. We can do it. We must do it to preserve our freedoms, our nation, our way of life and for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
