Time To Save Medicare

Contrary to Socialist demagogy, it is Conservatives that are attempting to save Medicare not kill it.   Medicare as it was designed as a Great Society Socialist Scheme in 1965 is going bankrupt and will be out of business by 2024.   If that happens, the very people Socialists are trying to protect, their PEEP's that pay no income taxes, will be out of luck since the "rich" will always have the money to provide for themselves.   It is obvious that the monies currently paid into Medicare by those working will not cover the 70 million Baby Boomers that began retiring last January.   And, since there really is no Medicare Trust Fund, if something is not done and quick Medicare, as a safety net, will not be in place for senior citizens just 13 years from now.

Let's get one thing straight.  Medicare is not FREE today.  Senior citizens are paying for Medicare through deductions from their Social Security, Medigap insurance and or fees and charges that are not covered by Medicare.   So as the Socialist demagogue this issue with commercials showing granny being thrown over a cliff by Republicans, they are lying about Medicare, which is nothing new.   Socialists always use scare tactics to rally their base.    What is true is that ObamaCare has cut Medicare by $500 Billion in order to insure those under 65 who are currently uninsured.    ObamaCare is happening on the backs of current senior citizens.

ObamaCare eliminates the Medicare HMO Advantage Program, currently utilized by 22 million senior citizens, including this Blogger's  Mom.   That program provides for HMO private medical insurance with the premium primarily paid for by the government.   Though about $100 a month in my Mom's case is deducted from her Social Security check to subsidize the premium.  While most expenses are covered with deductibles like any HMO, some are not like hearing aides.  In any case, it is not FREE now; but Medicare Advantage is less expensive than regular Medicare and then needing to buy a Medigap policy, which can cost $300 - $500 a month.

The Ryan Plan basically proposes a choice of both Medicare HMO Advantage and PPO, private medical insurance for all senior citizens, with the "rich" paying a bigger part of the premium and the poor paying little or nothing.   Why on earth should senior citizens expect their children and grandchildren to pay for their medical insurance if they have the money to pay 20 - 50% of the premium.  And, since Medicare is not FREE now,  there is nothing radical about the Ryan Plan.   The real issue is that all senior citizens should be guaranteed medical insurance regardless of their ailments or age.   If paying for medical insurance means one less cruise a year, to prevent the bankruptcy of the United States, big deal!

The Socialists, including President Obama are bankrupting the United States to win elections.   Every one knows that Medicare as currently constructed is not sustainable.   It is time for grown ups in Washington to speak the truth and fix Medicare for future generations.   Congressman Paul Ryan has proposed a very logical plan that would require those that can afford to pay for their own medical insurance to pay a portion of the premium.   We need to reform Medicare to prevent the bankruptcy of our nation.

To get it done, we must sweep the Socialists out of office by electing common sense Conservatives that support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, a balanced budget, term limits, real HEALTH CARE, energy and education reform, a strong national defense, including securing our border and fighting Terrorism, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values that are the foundation of our nation.   This is the platform supported by the majority of the American people and they only way to restore economic growth and job creation in America.

We have to take back our country from the Socialists, environmental wackos, trial lawyers and public employee unions to save Medicare and prevent the bankruptcy of the United States.   We can do it.   We must do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.  It is time to save Medicare NOW for future generations.
