The Heavy Hand Of Government

Our Founding Fathers experienced the heavy hand of a divine right King and as a result declared our independence from Great Britain in 1776.   To prevent the tyranny they had known, our Founding Fathers established the Constitution of the United States in 1787 to form a more perfect union, based on limited government and checks and balances, to avoid an abuse of power.   That was then and this is now.  

Today, once again we feel the heavy hand of local, state and federal governments at every turn of life and death.   Think about it.  At birth, we must register by birth certificate to tell government we have arrived and can be taxed.    Shortly thereafter, all Americans must have a Social Security number to be listed as a Dependent for tax reasons; but really to signal the government that a taxpayer is coming along.   

To do virtually everything in life, we must have a license or permit; driving, marriage, fishing, hunting, gun ownership, opening a business and for many professions.   Of course, to get those licenses or permits, in addition to whatever taxes we pay, we must pay for licenses and other fees, some times each year.   And, then we die at which time a death certificate is needed to inform government that our estate is there to be taxed. 

Literally, everything we do, eat, or own are governed by some, or all levels of government.   And, we pay taxes on sales, property, income, capital gains, dividends and estates.   Fees for licenses and permits are just another form of taxation, as well.   It is probable that many Americans spend about a month each year of time just dealing with all levels of government and compliance.   Clearly,  during the last hundred years of Socialist creep, in particular, our nation has evolved to the point that government intrudes into all aspects of daily life at the expense of our freedom. 

This Blogger has had it.   We need to shrink the size of government, at all levels, not just because it is bankrupting our country; but because government today is a threat to our freedom.  If Socialist President Obama was allowed to prevail in transforming our nation into a European style Socialist country, it would be at the expense of our freedom; plain and simple.   ObamaCare is a prime example.   Do we really want government involved in life and death health care decisions.   I think not.  But, this is just one example of many, where government has over reached to control daily life.   Enough is Enough. 

Socialist President Obama has grown government to consume 25% of our nation's gross domestic product.   This is the highest level since World War II.  Traditionally, government spending has been at about 18 - 20% of GDP.   It would be better if it was even less at 17%.   The place to start is the elimination of 500,000 federal civilian jobs, through normal attrition, over the next five years, out of the current 2.65 million federal government employees.   This would mean elimination, or consolidation of various federal government agencies, commissions, or departments.   There is so much redundancy and waste in the federal government that we will not even know these federal employees are gone.  

Of course, Socialists in government, including President Obama, will never allow this to happen because this would mean fewer union public employees donating money to their reelection campaigns.   We have to make it happen by sweeping these Socialists out of office in 2012 and 2014 first to prevent the bankruptcy of our nation; but equally important to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.

If you believe as I do that the heavy hand of government is a threat to our freedom, then put on your hip boots because we have to drain the swamp that is Washington DC.   We can do it.   We must do it to end all the government intrusion into our lives.   We must get back to the limited, Constitutional government originally intended by our Founding Fathers by pushing back the 100 years of Socialist creep that is destroying our nation.   We have a job to do in the elections of 2012 and 2014.   Our nation depends on our success.
