Public Employee Unions - A Cancer on America

There are about 22 million Americans working for various local, state and the federal governments. About 35 years ago, these "civil servants" were given the right to collective bargaining so today most of these workers belong to public employee unions. Since public employee unions, not to be confused with their individual members, were given the right to influence elections, through millions in campaign contributions, a vicious cycle has persisted for years. The public employee unions donate hundreds of millions of dollars each campaign year to Socialists that are often elected because of these donations. Whose bread you eat, whose song you sing. Since the public employee unions own Socialist politicians lock, stock and barrel, Socialists agree to give away the store in compensation and benefits to public employee unions in contract negotiations. This is bankrupting our country.

As such, public employee unions have become a cancer on America and as such, they must be stopped. Many states and the federal government are bankrupt because Socialists in power, with the concurrence of Republicans over the years, have agreed to compensation and benefits far beyond what is typical in the private sector. The only exception occurred when President Ronald Reagan fired the air traffic controllers that attempted to strike. Otherwise, public employee unions are milking the tax payer for every dime they can get without any consideration to what it is doing to our nation. And, there is no such thing as "management" working for government to protect the interests of the American people because some times even management belongs to unions and even if they don't, they are all benefit from these exorbitant union packages. The more public employee unions get for their members, the higher the pay for management working in government.

The real crime is the pension schemes provided public employees. Both the states and the federal government have hundreds of billions of dollars of unfunded liability to cover the pensions promised to government employees. It is unclear how these pensions will be paid; but you can be sure that public employee unions will insist on huge tax increases to bleed the American people further to fund their exorbitant pensions, which can be as much as full pay at retirement, some times as young as 55 years old. Keep in mind, the maximum Social Security pension, no matter how much was paid in, if we ever see it, is about $2,500 a month.

There is no way to stop the deficit spending that is bankrupting our country without stopping the public employee unions from gorging at the trough. We also must make it illegal for public employee unions to donate monies to political candidates of any political party. This corruption must come to an end if we are to take back our country. And, teacher unions are among the worst offenders. They hide behind children to get their pay packages. Don't get me wrong, great teachers should be well paid, however, their pension plans should be kept in line with private sector benefits.

And, school boards and administrators have literally turned many schools into dirty, deteriorating facilities because they have paid teachers and themselves at the expense of proper maintenance of schools. This is ridiculous. As a former teacher, I saw first hand the impact of teacher unions as I was told as a young teacher to dumb down my annual performance evaluation objectives because the union did not want teachers held to the higher standard I was proposing as the basis for my evaluation.

The negative impact of public employee unions on our nation is another reason we must sweep these Socialists out of office in 2012 and 2014. Socialists will never act to control public employee unions in order to bring fiscal sanity back to our government. Our only hope is to elect Conservatives that support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, a balanced budget, term limits, real education, energy and health care reform, a strong national defense, including securing our border and fighting Terrorism, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values that are the foundation of our nation. This is the platform supported by the majority of the American people and the only way to restore economic growth and job creation in America.

Most important, we must elect Conservatives in 2012 and 2014, who will adhere to the Constitution, as written by our Founding Fathers, not as contrived by the left wing media, public employee unions, Socialists in the last 97 years, former Presidents, Congresses, or the Courts. We must take back our country in 2012 and 2014 by stopping public employee unions from bankrupting our nation. We can do it. We will do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and our way of life and for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
