Government Shut Down - Life Did Not End

The federal government has technically been shut down for about a week and life did not end.  Go figure.   It is time to slim down government anyway to stop adding to our $17 Trillion National Debt with no end in sight.   This government shut down is a great opportunity to identify all the waste, fraud, abuse and redundancy that exists in various programs, agencies, commissions and departments that should be eliminated.  Most important, we need to impose a hiring freeze to eliminate at least 500,000 federal jobs, out of the 2.65 million federal civilian employees.  It can be done over five years through normal attrition and retirements.

If not now, when?   When politicians talk of cutting federal spending, they never mean in real terms.   What they always mean is cutting the growth of spending from let's say 5% growth to 4%; but federal spending actually never really comes down.  We see the end result in Obama's Trillion dollar budget deficits and borrowing 40 cents for every dollar the federal government spends.   Both political parties are guilty as charged of contributing to the bankruptcy of our country.

It has to stop and now.   Republicans will have to agree to raising the Debt Limit; but it should only happen if there is also an agreement to end the deficit trajectory and get us to a balanced budget in the next ten years.  If it does not happen, the Republicans should walk away from the table and let Obama and his Socialist Pals in Congress take the heat for bankrupting our country.   The fiscal insanity in Washington must end to prevent the economic collapse of the United States.   The Socialist will never stop spending.   Only Republicans can make this happen.
