Country Club Republicans Versus Blue Collar Republicans

There are two Republican Parties, Country Club Republicans and Blue Collar Republicans.  Country Club Republicans, who have served in office, are more prevalent on the east coast, though they can live anywhere.  Many of them graduated from the top universities in the country and all of them probably have family money.   George W Bush was actually a Country Clue Republican with a Texas Twang and as a result he was narrowly elected and then re-elected.  W did not connect with many in the Reagan coalition.  Blue Collar Republicans, my preference, though they too may belong to country clubs, as result of their success are generally self made.   Their money did not come from Daddy.  In many cases, their parents or grandparents were Blue Collar and or clearly "working people".   Very often Blue Collar Republicans worked their way through university and probably did not go to the top schools in the country.  And, Blue Collar Republicans are often the ones that owned small businesses.   The Tea Party is composed of Blue Collar Republicans not Country Club Republicans.

Most importantly, Ronald Reagan was a Blue Collar Republican.   Reagan came from a small town in Illinois.   His father had many jobs; but succeeded at few.  Reagan graduated from Eureka College in Illinois with a degree in Economics; yes Economics.  Reagan worked his way through university as a Life Guard and part time radio announcer.   To say that Ronald Reagan, who grew up during the Depression, did not come from money and was completely self made is an under statement.  Yet, Ronald Reagan connected with the American people, perhaps like no President in American history, not just because of his sunny disposition and core values; but because he came from America's heartland and was not part of the "elite" ruling class.

This Blogger will support which ever Conservative Republican wins the nomination to defeat Socialist President Obama and I emphasize the word Conservative not Republican; but my preference is and will always be a Blue Collar Republican.   My dream team is John Kasich, Governor of Ohio and Marco Rubio, Senator from Florida; but I also like Herman Cain, the first African American Conservative running for the Presidency who is an American success story because they are all self made and came from working class people.   But other Republicans also fit this Blue Collar description as well.  Of the announced candidates, Palenty, Gingrich and Santorem also come from Blue Collar working class roots.  The only candidate that does not fit this description is Mitt Romney, presumably the front runner for the nomination.

Mitt Romney is not only a Country Club Republican, he is unfortunately a convenient Conservative.  Though very successful in business, Romney was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.  Clearly, Romney was not a Conservative when he was Governor of Socialist Massachusetts.  Romney was a sponsor of RomneyCare, the Massachusetts version of ObamaCare.   Romney used to be pro-choice not pro-life.  Romney is known as a flip flopper and therefore true Conservatives are rightly suspect of Romney's Conservative credentials.   Time will tell, but as of now this Blogger is not opening up my check book in support of Mitt Romney.

We need to nominate a Blue Collar Republican to connect with Independents and enough Blue Dog Ronald Reagan Democrats to defeat Socialist President Obama to win the Presidency and take back our country.  The Presidential election of 2012 will be won or lost in Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Nevada and a few other states.  Obama carried these states in 2008.  Obama cannot win if he does not carry the majority of these states again.  As such, the Republican Nominee must carry some or all of these states.   To get there, the Republican must support a common sense platform, which includes support for free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, real education, energy and health care reform, a strong national defense, including securing our border and fighting Terrorism, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values that are the foundation of our nation.

This is the platform supported by the majority of the American people and the only way to restore economic growth and job creation in our country.  Equally important, this is the platform that will form the basis of a coalition among Conservative Republicans, Independents, and Blue Dog Democrats.   This is the Ronald Reagan coalition that resulted in landslide victories for Reagan.   We must take back our country in 2012 and 2014.  If the Republicans nominate the right Blue Collar Republican, we can do it.   We must do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
