California Government Employment - Out Of Control

There are about 36 million people living in the state of California give or take a few million illegal aliens.  Of those about 2.4 million people in California work for local, state or federal governments, which is about 7% of the state's population.   So for every 100 people that live in California, there are 7 providing various government services to those people.   About 1.656 million people work for local government.   Roughly, 488,000 are state employees and 254,000 are federal employees.   From December 2007 to March 2011, while the rest of the country and California in particular has experienced serious recession,  the state of California lost just 118,000 government jobs, mostly at the local level.   The state lost a few thousand of those jobs and the federal government actually grew new jobs; surprise, surprise.

In the four year period from 2007 to 2011, when many companies laid off 10 - 50% or more of their workforce during the down turn, the state of California only shed about 5% of jobs over four years.   No doubt this was done by normal attrition, not real lay offs, as many positions were actually filled when employees retired or quit rather than were eliminated even though all levels of government in California and the federal government experienced huge deficit spending during these years.

Of course, most of these 2.4 million employees belong to public employee unions.   As such, they are paid  significantly more than similar employees in the private sector, particularly when pension and other benefits are included.  These public employee unions make major donations to Socialist candidates, both in all states and at the federal level, to maintain their power and the ability to continue feeding at the trough.   President Obama, Socialist Members of Congress and all Socialist in California that control the state are owned lock, stock and barrel by these public employee unions that are bankrupting our country and many states, including California.

So now, Socialists in Washington DC and in California and other states want to raise taxes on the "rich" so that they will pay their "fair share".   Forget about the fact that their PEEP's, about 47% of Americans that vote for Socialists, pay no income taxes at all, or that the top 10% of wage earners probably already pay 70% or more of all income taxes paid in America; it is still not enough for these Socialists and their public employee union bosses.  In fact, Socialists will not be happy until they confiscate all personal wealth to redistribute to their PEEP's and public employee union members in the name of "social justice". Of course, in doing so they will kill the goose that laid the golden egg and destroy our country in the process.

Despite cutting a few government jobs here and there, government is still growing at a alarming rate, which will not only will bankrupt our country; but is a threat to our freedom.   California is bleeding jobs as companies leave the state because of high taxes, environmental wacko and crazy employment laws.   What is left behind are takers not makers.  Even though California has among the highest taxes in the country, delusional Socialists in California want to raise taxes even more.   There have been no meaningful cuts in California of public union employees.   The end result has been Billions in deficit spending and borrowing for years.   California bonds are actually junk bonds.  California has to pay 6 - 8% interest to attract investors in a 2 - 3% market.   California is just another Greece.   The United States is not far behind as we reach our $14.3 Trillion debt ceiling this summer.

It is time for states like California and the federal government to make major cuts in spending and that means cutting the size of government by laying off millions of government employees at all levels.   Government bureaucracy and regulations are stifling innovation and economic growth.  Cards talk and numbers don't lie.   There have been no meaningful cuts at any level of government.   Normal attrition is not enough to balance state or federal budgets.   Whole departments and agencies must be eliminated.  Redundant programs must be ended.   We don't need a mirror image of government at the federal, state and local levels.  The federal government should focus on core responsibilities like Defense and many other functions like education that are already happening at the state level should be eliminated at the federal level.   If the federal government wants to provide some level of funding for these functions, it can be done as block grants to the states.

What we need today is radical change to prevent the bankruptcy of the United States.  This will never happen as long as Socialist are in government, which is why we must sweep Socialists like President Obama out of office in 2012 and 2014.   California may be lost since most of these 2.4 million government employee union members will always vote for Socialists; but we can take back our country.   We must elect common sense Conservatives that support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, a balanced budget, term limits, real education, energy and health care reform, a strong national defense including securing our border and fighting Terrorism,, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values that are the foundation of our nation.   This is the platform supported by the majority of the American people and the only way to restore solid economic growth and job creation in our country.

California is a lesson in failure.   We have to take back our country in 2012 and 2014 to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.   We can do it.  We must do it to prevent the California contagion from infecting our whole nation.
