Federal Government Real Estate - More Waste

The federal government currently owns or leases 3.3 billion square feet of space in the United States, as the largest commercial property holder in our country. Since the federal government is responsible for 25 cents of every $1.00 spent in the US, this should be no surprise. Though Socialist President Obama signed a memorandum last summer ordering department heads to "identify and eliminate" unneeded properties with the goal of saving at least $3 billion a year by 2012, the federal government has actually leased, or acquired even more space. In fact, 2009, was a banner year for gaining, not selling, federal property.

While the federal government got rid of 19,500 assets, which was a combination of buildings, land and other structures, when the dust settled two dozen agencies reported a net increase of 23,000 more buildings in 2009, which was 71 million more square feet than was on the books in 2008. In 2009, the number of federal government buildings that were under utilized rose from 43,360 to 45,190. The number of flat out excess buildings rose from 10,140 to 10,327. Now remember, this is the federal government that wants to manage our nation's health care system, that comprises one-sixth of our economy.

While Socialist always advocate raising taxes of one sort or another, federal government wasteful spending is humongous. This federal real estate issue is one of many examples. While there still must be serious spending cuts to end the trillion dollar plus annual deficit, the odds are that half of the deficit is probably attributable to mismanagement, incompetence, fraud and corruption. Clearly, we have to starve the beast for the federal government to get its house in order. As long as confiscatory tax policy is in place and the federal government can just print money, or borrow money to fund the debt, we will never see a draining of the swamp.

And, none of this will happen as long as Socialist are running Washington. We have to finish the job we started in 2010 by electing Conservatives in 2012 and 2014 that support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, a balanced budget, term limits, real education, energy and health care reform, a strong national defense, including securing our border and fighting Terrorism, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values that are the foundation of our nation. This is the platform supported by the majority of the American people and the only way to restore economic growth and job creation in our country.

Most important, we must elect Conservatives, who will adhere to the Constitution, as written by our Founding Fathers, not as contrived by the left wing media, Socialists in the last 97 years, our current and former Presidents, Congresses, or the Courts. We must take back our country in 2012 and 2014. We can do it. We must do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
