Romney, Gingrich Or Santorum - Who Can Win

It is critical that Republicans nominate a candidate for the Presidency that can beat Socialist President Obama in 2012.   This Blogger applies the Ohio test concerning electability.   Which of the remaining candidates, Romney, Gingrich or Santorum will play in Ohio, recognizing that Congressman Ron Paul is not a real contender.  No Republican has won the Presidency without carrying Ohio in the last 100 years.   So in all likelihood, Ohio will be critical to a Republican victory.  It is important to note that Obama carried Ohio in 2008 and as a result McCain lost the election because Ohio is always a national indicator.

This Blogger does not believe that Governor Mitt Romney will play in Ohio with Independents and Blue Collar union Conservative Democrats that will be necessary to win the state.  Romney is already on shakey ground with many Conservative Republicans, however, when push comes to shove most Republicans will vote for Romney if he is the nominee as a vote against Obama.   However, Mitt Romney was born with a silver spoon in his mouth.  As such, Romney is not the kind of guy that will connect with many working class people in Ohio, especially in view of his connection to Bain Capital.

Though this Blogger would certainly vote for Newt Gingrich if he is the Republican nominee, it is also my contention that Gingrich may be too smart and undisciplined to be President.  Gingrich is a great thinker with big ideas; but that fact is that Gingrich has too many ideas.   Gingrich thinks out loud too much and while this Blogger enjoys listening to Newt Gingrich, the man is only electable if he can stick to three or four main themes in order to relate to the people of Ohio.   In this case, less is more.

To date, Gingrich has not had the discpiline to do that. If Gingrich has a campaign staff, they are not controlling the message, perhaps because Gingrich is uncontrollable.   Further, Newt Gingrich needs to buy some suits that actually fit him.   It appears that Gingrich is wearing suits that might have fit him when he was 20 pounds lighter; but they certainly don't fit now.  For better or worse, image matters.   Newt Gingrich needs a staff around him to both help control the message and his image.  If he doesn't make it happen soon, Newt Gingrich will not play in Ohio either.

Based on the facts, Rick Santorum, a devout Roman Catholic, has the best chance of carrying Ohio.   Santorum has the experience to be President of the United States having served several terms in Congress in the House and the Senate.   Even though Santorum is well educated and an attorney, Santorum comes from Pennsylvania blue collar roots that would play well in Ohio.  Santorum's grandfather was a coal miner.  Santorum looks good on TV.   Santorum knows how to stick to his message.   Santorum is a guy you can have a beer with, which is necessary to carry Ohio.

Who ever wins the Republican nomination for the Presidency, the Ohio test must be applied to balance the ticket.  We have to take back our country in 2012 and 2014 by sweeping Socialists at all levels of government, including President Obama, out of office.   We can do it.   We must do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.   As Ohio goes, so will go the nation.   The Republican nominee must play in Ohio, or we have no chance of defeating Socialist President Obama.  Just something to think about South Carolina and Florida.
