Unions In America - Job Killers - Four More Years?

Labor Day was signed into law as a National Holiday in 1884 by Democrat President Grover Cleveland to honor workers in America.  Since then it has become a day for back to school shopping and other activities with family and friends.  On the darker side, very often Unions stage parades on Labor Day to highlight their management and primarily Socialist politicians that support them.   In some cities, this year, Unions have denied Republicans an opportunity to march with them as though Republicans don't support worker rights.  In many ways, that action says it all.   Socialist politicians, like President Obama and his Socialist pals in Congress, that are bankrupting our country, are owned lock, stock and barrel by big labor unions.

The fact is that much to the chagrin of Labor Unions, only 11% of American workers actually belong to Labor Unions.   Most union members today belong to local, state and federal public employee unions.  While private sector unions had a place in American society during the industrialization of our country to insure worker rights, benefits and safe working conditions, those things are now so enshrined into the work environment that private sector unions have become somewhat unnecessary.   Red states are usually right to work states meaning that an employee cannot be forced to join a union.  Blue Socialist states generally require union membership once a union is certified.  By the way, Blue States are the ones losing jobs.  Go figure.

The real problem with this picture is that a punitive tax code, environmental wacko regulations and private sector unions have destroyed manufacturing in the United States by demanding higher and higher compensation and benefits.   Just look at cities like Detroit to see what unions can do to a region.  How appropriate that Socialist President Obama choose Detroit to give his Labor Day speech.  Detroit is a wasteland full of abandoned houses and among the highest unemployment in the nation.   Detroit has been run by corrupt Socialists for the past 50 years and we see the end result; poverty and misery with most of the people in Detroit dependent on government.   Detroit was a hell hole 40 years ago.  It is even worse today.  It is just plain criminal.  However, it should be no surprise that Obama would go to Detroit on Labor Day to address his PEEP's.   They love him there as they chanted "four more years" even though it means misery and poverty for them.

Unions are killing jobs in America.  Union activities might have been OK before global competition, but it just makes no sense to pay someone with little education, or specific skills, $75 and hour fully loaded when that same work can be done for $5 an hour in China.   While no one expects workers in the US to work for the same pay and benefits as workers in China, the unions killed the goose that laid the golden egg.   Those manufacturing jobs are never coming back to the United States.   Cities like Detroit are destined to remain the same for years to come as a result of corruption and union activities.   It is what it is.

The unions know it too, which is the reason they are trying desperately to unionize Wal Mart, the largest private sector employer in the US.  If it ever happens, Wal Mart will just go to automated cashiers, requiring a fourth as many employees, much as is happening at Home Depot.   Wal Mart could also adopt the big box model, much like CostCo, to cut other employees to keep their cost down.   The fact is that Wal Mart employees have little education, or other jobs skills and minimal training is required to work at Wal Mart.   For better or worse, these people are just not worth more than they are being paid now.  In addition, many of these low income people are Wal Mart customers.   Anything that raises Wal Mart's cost will be passed on to the customer, hurting the very people the unions are trying to help.  So once again, if Wal Mart is ever unionized, the unions will have raised the cost of doing business and destroyed jobs in America.

The biggest evil are public employee unions that use crooked political contributions to Socialists and collective bargaining to extract compensation and benefits that are 20 - 40% higher than is typical in the private sector.  Why on earth should public sector employees receive better compensation and benefits that is typical among the taxpayers that support them.  Public employee unions at the local, state and federal level are bankrupting our country as they feed at the trough at our expense.   Even Socialist President Franklin Roosevelt stated that collective bargaining was incapable with government employment.   Collective bargain is the basis for a vicious circle.   All unions, but especially public employee unions like SEIU, contribute to Socialist campaigns to help Socialists stay in power.  Socialists elected officials then make sure to pay back their buddies in the unions with extraordinary compensation and benefits.   It is truly a vicious circle of corruption.

Public employee union members in Wisconsin, Ohio, Florida and New Jersey, all run by Republican Governors, have rioted in the streets because they are now being asked to pay a small portion, still much less than what is typical in the private sector, to support their medical and pension benefits.   If you see a school, or other government building, or facility that is poorly maintained, it is because tax payer monies are going to support public employee union members, rather than for proper maintenance of government facilities.  It is as simple as that.

Finally, many government building projects are managed by Project Labor Agreements by law, requiring that only contractors that use union labor can get the job.  Studies show that this requirement raises actual cost by about 15%, which amounts to billions of dollars in over payments each year.   In bankrupt California alone in the last few years, school construction costs were increased by $200 million because of Project Labor Agreements.   How many teachers would that money have paid for?   If the fully loaded cost of a teacher is $100,000 a year, California school districts could have hired 2000 more teachers with the savings that could have occurred without these Project Labor Agreements.

Unions in America, aided by their accomplices, the Socialists in government, like President Obama and his Socialist/Communists appointees at the National Labor Relations Board are job killers.   For the most part manufacturing in America is gone.  Public employee union members continue to feed at the trough.   WE THE PEOPLE must take back our country to prevent the bankruptcy of the United States.

To do so we must sweep these Socialists, at all levels of government out of office by electing rock solid, common sense Conservatives that support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, real energy, education, health care and entitlement reform, a strong national defense, including securing our border and fighting Terrorism, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values that are the foundation of our nation.    This is the platform supported by the majority of the American people and the only way to restore economic growth and job creation in America.

We must also elect Conservatives that will end collective bargaining for public employees to bring their compensation and benefits in line with what is typical in the private sector to help prevent the bankruptcy of our nation.   And, to deal with badly needed infrastructure improvements, we must put a hiring freeze on federal employment to decrease the size of the federal government by 500,000 civilian employees, out of 2.65 million current employees, in the next five years.   This can be done by normal attrition without lay off's.  And, this is the money we need to improve our bridges, water systems, sewers, schools, airports etc.   We don't need any more deficit spending and borrowing from the Chinese to get the job done.

We have to take back our country in 2012 and 2014.   We can do it.   We must do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.   We must clean out the barn in Washington to end the corruption and those feeding at the trough.  In doing so, we must limit the power of public employee unions to help prevent the bankruptcy of our nation.
