Break Up of The Unites States - It Could Happen

Ten years ago, this Blogger and former history and government teacher would have thought the break up of the United States was unthinkable.  I am not so sure today.   The bloody Civil War was fought over competing economic systems, not slavery.   The North was industrialized and based on free market capitalism.   The South was agrarian and predicated on slavery.   Before the Civil War began, Abraham Lincoln was prepared to live with slavery, in the states where it existed, until it died a natural death, to overt war.

The real issue was the growth of slavery into the new states, which Lincoln could not tolerate.   In any case, once the Civil War began, Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 to finally end slavery and to establish free market capitalism as the economic system of the entire United States.  Aside from ending the evil that was slavery,  it was the establishment of capitalism as our national economic system that made the 20th Century the American Century.

Today our nation has never been more divided; thanks to President Obama.   Who ever wins the Presidential election, about 35 states will vote for Governor Mitt Romney, while about 15 states will vote for Socialist President Obama.   Romney will carry the heartland of the nation and the South along with perhaps New Hampshire, by far the largest land mass.   Obama will carry the West Coast, the Northeast and perhaps a few states in the Mid West.   This is likely to be a very close election.

It is possible that which ever candidate gets 270 Electoral votes, that the other candidate may win the popular vote, as happened in 2000 with Bush V. Gore.  This has only happened three times in our history.  And, when it does happen, those that supported the loser always feel that the President is illegitimate.   There are still people expressing those feelings today related to George W Bush in 2000, who actually got 500,000 fewer votes overall than Al Gore; but by winning Florida won in the Electoral College.

However, the real issue is that our country is now divided between Conservatives, that cling to our guns, religion and moral values and support much smaller, limited government, with lower taxes and less regulation; and Socialists that support bigger, more intrusive government, higher taxes, more regulations and more people on entitlements.   The reality is that we have irreconcilable differences.   We just don't speak the same language.   Conservatives speak of undeniable facts, while Socialists are all about emotions; i.e. throwing granny over a cliff.

We are reaching the tipping point.   If federal spending is not brought under control, we are likely to see the economic collapse of the United States within the next ten years.   This will lead to civil strife on our streets as entitlements will be curtailed out of necessity.  The money will just not be there to cover all the Takers in society, Obama's Peeps, the 50% of Americans that pay no income taxes at all, public employee union members, those on the dole in one way or another, radical environmentalists, trial lawyers and crony capitalists.   And, at that point the Makers in society, the 50% of us that pay all the income taxes in our country will say enough.

It will boil down to solvent Red States and insolvent Blue States sucking the blood out of productive people.   That is a formula for the break up of the United States.   Don't think it can't happen.   It did happen to the old Soviet Union and other countries in Europe.   There are calls right now in Italy and Spain to break up those countries because of the economic mess they face.

If we don't sweep Socialists at all levels of government, that are bankrupting our country, including President Obama, out of office, the break up of the United States could occur.   Economic collapse would likely lead to a loss of our National Sovereignty as creditor nations, would seek more control of our country.   This is exactly what is happening in Greece and Spain today as Germany is dictating what these countries must do to get bail out money.

In our case, it would be China calling the shots since we owe them a $1 Trillion of our $16 Trillion National Debt.  Many laugh when I say China will ask for Alaska to settle up.  It would be perfectly understandable if we default our our debt, which is entirely possible.  However, any President that would surrender American territory to any other country, or the United Nations would foment revolution on our streets.  Remember, 50% of American have guns.   We just can't let any of this happen.

If we have any hope of getting our country back on track, we must elect Mitt Romney, the next President of the United States and gain Republican control of both Houses of Congress to get our financial house in order.   Romney will restore respect for our country around the world, economic growth and job creation again in America.   A second Obama term will get us that much closer to national bankruptcy.   This would be a road to the break up of our nation, which is intolerable.

P.S.  To donate to Mitt Romney's campaign to make Obama a one term President, just go to mittromney.com and click on DONATE.   Once on that page, look for the line that says, I know my Referrers Information, click on that box and type in 8544, the National Freedom Forum Referral Number to make our voices heard.   Give as much as you can to take back and save our country.
