Michelle Obama's Role Model - Beyonce

First Lady Michelle Obama was recently asked by People Magazine if she could trade places with another woman, who would that woman be.   Without thinking much, or maybe at all, Mrs. Obama answered Beyonce, stating that she was a great role model.   What was Michelle Obama thinking?  And, while Beyonce is a beautiful and talented singer and actress,  the First Lady's response was unbelievable and more appropriate for a 13 year old wannabe girl, rather than a professional, educated woman and the First Lady of the United States.

After all, Michelle Obama is an attorney, by education, not a school girl.  Michelle dear, that ship has sailed.  In many ways, Michelle Obama's choice shows just how shallow and out of touch the Obama's really are related to the American people.   Perhaps, the First Lady and Socialist President Obama need to spend more time with real people in the heart land, rather than their arugula eating Hollywood friends raising money.   While Michelle Obama's response may have been hip and cool, it was a really frivolous and dumb answer.

As a former history teacher, this Blogger was amazed by Michelle Obama's response when there are so many historical women and role models that would have made more sense.   Let's start with Dolly Madison, who stared down the British as they approached Washington DC during the War of 1812.   While her husband James Madison, our fourth President, was with our troops on the other side of the Potomac, Mrs. Madison stayed behind to gather all the White House treasures and historical documents to keep them from being destroyed by the British.  This was fortuitous because when the British arrived, they burned the White House to the ground.

Michelle Obama could have cited Harriet Tubman, the Black woman who assisted in freeing slaves in the Under Ground Railroad.  And, then there was Susan B Anthony, the suffragette who worked to get women the right to vote, without whom Obama would never have been elected President.   How about Margaret Chase Smith, the first woman to be elected to both the House of Representatives and the Senate from Maine.   Or Shirley Chisholm, the first Black woman elected to Congress.  There was Eleanor Roosevelt, a champion for the poor and minorities.   What about Rosa Parks, the Black woman who refused to sit in the back of the bus igniting the civil rights movement.  Michelle Obama could have looked to Golda Meir, the first and only woman Prime Minister of Israel who led their country during the 1967 war that gave them back their historical capital, Jerusalem.

Or, the Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher, the longest serving and only woman Prime Minister in British history, who worked with Ronald Reagan to end Communism.  If Michelle Obama wanted to focus on someone successful in Hollywood, then clearly Oprah Winfrey, who came from poverty to become a billionaire could have been  a less vain and frivolous choice.   These are just a few of the women that Michelle Obama could have chosen from a very long list of successful women that have made their mark on the world.   Certainly, Beyonce would not be high on that list.

But then the Obama's have not accomplished much in life, before Obama was elected to the Presidency, beside producing two attractive and presumably smart daughters.   Socialist President Obama had no real world experience in business and minimal experience in government before being elected President.   Michelle Obama was a part time attorney for a hospital in Chicago making a lot of money once her husband became a Senator.  Go figure.  Mrs. Obama's choice of Beyonce is a pretty good indication that Michelle Obama has no sense of history.

Remember, this is the woman who said she could finally be proud of the United States because her husband was elected President; as though nothing significant happened in American history before Obama's election.   That peculiar statement is a complete denial of more than 200 years of US history and American exceptionalism.

Tell you what, when we make Obama a one term President, the Obama's can move to Hollywood to be with their friends.   Perhaps, since Mrs. Obama is attractive, with some singing and acting lessons, Michelle Obama can be another Beyonce to realize her dream.   Let's give the First Lady her dream by sending Socialist President Obama into early retirement in 2012.   After all, we want the First Lady to be happy.
