Time For a Constitutional Convention

It is time for two thirds of the states, as represented by their legislatures and as permitted by the US Constitution, to establish a Constitutional Convention to propose amendments to the US Constitution to deal with the abuses of the federal government and to finish the work of our Founding Fathers. This is a difficult process as it should be; but since our federal elected representatives have ignored the Constitution, as written by our Founding Fathers, to the point of bankrupting our nation, it is now time that WE THE PEOPLE take power back for the people.

Seven common sense Constitutional amendments are needed to create proper checks and balances between the states and the federal government as follows;

Federal Term Limits: Two, Six Year Terms for the US Senate and Four three year terms for the House of Representatives are sufficient. This change means that these elected representatives would be limited to 12 years in the same office. This must be done to help end the power of incumbency and the corruption we see in Washington DC and to help insure that we have citizen politicians who have worked in the real world and who must live by their legislative actions.

Balance Budget Amendment: Unless there is an official declaration of war, or national emergency, as ratified by two thirds of the states, the federal government should be required to maintain a balanced budget without borrowing to achieve it. Borrowing would only be permitted to fund a declared or war, or ratified national emergency and only for such purposes. There can be no wiggle room in this Amendment.

Limits on Federal Taxation Authority: Unless there is an official declaration of war, or national emergency as ratified by two thirds of the states, the ability to raise federal taxes should require approval of two thirds of the states. And, in the event federal taxes are raised to deal with war, or a national emergency, such taxes should be reduced to original levels once such event is declared over by ratification of two thirds of the states.

Limits on the Federal Government: Health care and education should be totally governed by state law. Any federal funding for such benefits, or services should be in the form of per capita grants to the states to be used for said purpose; but at the sole discretion of the states.

Limits on Federal Land Ownership: In no case shall the federal government be permitted to own and control in excess of 5% of the land of any state.

Application of Federal Laws: Amendment should provide that federal elected officials and federal employees cannot be exempted from any federal laws or programs.

Securing the Borders of the United States: This amendment would REQUIRE the federal government to secure our borders, by whatever means necessary, including posting the United States Army on our borders, to stop the flow of illegal immigration. In the event, the federal government fails to do so, state governments along our borders would have the right to use state national guards to secure the borders at federal government expense.

These Amendments and perhaps others should be put before all states. The process requires approval by three fourths of the states to ratify Constitutional Amendments. Our federal elected representatives have proven that they cannot be trusted to protect and preserve the interests of the United States. Socialists like Obama, Reid and Pelosi have made the need for these common sense Constitutional Amendments even more imperative.

We must take back our country. It is clear that the only real way to do it, in addition to electing Conservatives who support limited government, lower taxes and less regulation, a balanced budget, a strong national defense, real energy independence, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values is to amend the US Constitution to deal with the abuses of the federal government. We can do it. We must do it to save our country for the sake of our children and grandchildren.
