Time For Romney To Get Tough

John McCain was an officer and a gentleman in 2008 when he ran for the Presidency.  Ironically, McCain the war hero, was running against Obama, the Chicago street fighter and as a result McCain lost resoundingly.  To be fair, it may be that any Republican would have lost in 2008 to an attractive Socialist candidate, with no record of accomplishment, offering "Hope and Change".    That was then, this is now.

It is time for Mitt Romney to take the gloves off in his campaign against Socialist President Obama.  As they say, politics in not bean bags. Obama has failed to restore economic growth and job creation in America.  Obama now has a dismal record of failure so it is impossible for him to hide behind his slogans, or propaganda.   Obama's campaign slogan is "Forward"; but forward to what, more of the same failed economic policies that have added $5 Trillion to our $16 Trillion National Debt and resulted in 41 straight months of 8% or higher unemployment.

Mitt Romney is a nice guy, great father and husband and successful businessman; but none of that will win him the Presidency.  Romney needs to get tough and hit the President hard on all the issues that matter because in politics, nice guys finish last.  First, let's be clear.  This election is about a choice between limited government and free market capitalism, which is the basis for American Exceptionalism and Obama's bigger, more intrusive, tax and deficit spend government and Socialism.  Yes, Romney needs to use the word Socialism when describing this President.   Obama is who he is.

And, while Republicans do not support throwing granny over a cliff, starving poor children, or dirty air and water, we do support reasonable entitlement reform to preserve Social Security and Medicare for future generations, policies that really help the poor raise themselves out of poverty and reasonable environmental regulations that balance job creation with logical standards that protect the environment.  Romney needs to be clear concerning all these issues.

Romney must outline a specific Energy Plan that will make the United States energy independent in the next 10 years and create millions of jobs beginning with approving the Keystone Pipeline, day one.  That plan must be an all above the Plan that includes more oil drilling, oil and gas shale development, natural gas, nuclear, clean coal and more research on renewables.   In doing so, Romney should propose that the Environmental Protection Agency, Obama's Gestapo, be repositioned as the Environmental Solutions Agency working to make all energy sources cleaner, safer and cheaper.  Our goal should be cheaper energy, not more expensive energy, Obama's Plan, as the key to a higher standard of living for all Americans, the rebirth of manufacturing in the US, economic growth and prosperity.

The Bush Tax cuts must be made permanent for all Americans, pending logical tax reform that brings down tax rates for everyone by eliminating all but charitable deductions.   The Estate Tax should be eliminated, or brought down dramatically.  Corporate Income taxes must be brought down to no more than 20% to be competitive with other nations to bring jobs back to our country.  All 11,000 new job killer regulations, imposed by Obama's Executive Orders, on American business should be eliminated day one of a new Romney Administration.  And, further there should be a logical review of all regulations on the books to determine their job killing impact to get our country back on track and encourage job creation.

Romney must propose a logical plan to end deficit spending and pay off our National Debt over the next 5 - 10 years.  That plan should include a hiring freeze to eliminate 500,000 federal civilian employees by normal attrition, not lay off's, to help bring down the size of the federal government, from Obama's current 25% of GDP, to no more than 18% of GDP, the more traditional level.   Of course, public employee compensation, benefits and pensions must be cut dramatically to reflect what is common in the private sector instead of paying government workers 40% more than is common in business.

This means eliminating, or scaling back collective bargaining rights for public employees that are bankrupting our country.  Even Socialist President Franklin Roosevelt opposed collective bargaining for public employees. Redundant programs, commissions, agencies and departments of the federal government must be eliminated, beginning with the Department of Education that can be folded back into Health and Human Services and the Department of Energy that can be folded into Commerce.  Of course, both Energy and Education should be cut dramatically as part of the process.

REPEALING ObamaCare must be a day one priority; but Romney must propose a plan to deal with Pre Existing Conditions, in particular.  Free Market solutions to dealing with rising health care costs and premiums must be part of any plan.  So allowing people and companies to buy insurance across state lines and through various Associations to get group pricing must be part of the plan.  Dealing with outrageous medical malpractice claims and trial lawyers that drive up the cost of medical care must be part of any comprehensive plan.  Finally, the federal government should block grant Medicaid monies to the states to allow them to deal with the 30 million uninsured and the poor.

Romney must propose comprehensive immigration reform, not just to attract Latino voters; but because this issue cannot be ignored any longer.   Any Plan must include finally securing our border with our military if necessary.  Any illegal alien arrested for a crime should be deported after serving their sentence with the condition that if they reenter the US and are arrested again, they will be sent to prison for life.   Romney should propose a Constitutional Amendment defining American citizenship as of the date the Amendment is enacted requiring American parent's for a child to be an American citizen.  This is no different than occurs in most countries in the world, including Mexico.

Specific to the 12 million illegal aliens already in America, a logical plan should be put in place that involves fines and green cards to allow them to remain in the US provided they are self supporting and not on Welfare.  This is not amnesty; but rather legalization involving fines for entering our country illegally.  Finally, we need a Guest Worker program that allows Mexicans to come into the United States and work in our country without providing them, or their children a path to citizenship.   All of this is perfectly logical.  Most important, we must recognize that we are not about to deport 12 million illegal aliens already in the United States.

While we should cut waste in the military, Romney needs to make it very clear that he supports a strong military second to none in the world.  National Defense, which should include fighting Terrorism and securing our border, must be a high priority.  That means finally dealing with Iran, which may include supporting Israel in the event they decide they must attack Iran, to destroy Iran's nuclear capability, to protect their country.

It is time for Mitt Romney to get tough in dealing with Obama.  Cards talk and lousy numbers don't lie; but Socialists like Obama will lie, cheat or steal to stay in power feeding at the trough.  Remember, Obama comes from Chicago where the dead vote and often.   When Obamanistas out right lie, Romney and his surrogates should not be afraid to call a lie a lie.  Romney need not fear that he is attacking the first Black President.   That ship has sailed.  The novelty of electing a Black President is no longer relevant to this election.   Obama, the emperor has no clothes and it really does not matter that Obama is Black.

The color of failure, Obama's color, is painted in high unemployment numbers, particularly among the young and minorities, the highest foreclosure rate in American history, higher gas and energy costs, the most people on the dole in our history, $5 Trillion added to our $16 Trillion National Debt with no end in sight, a rise in the poverty rate and a lower standard of living for all Americans.  So no matter what the Obama Propaganda Machine spins out, they can't deny, or refute all of these economic indicators.  As such, Romney needs to propose specifics on all the key issues listed above and hit Obama hard on the President's failure.   Obama is Jimmy Carter II, but worse and should therefore suffer the same fate of being a one term President for the good of our nation.
