High Food Prices - Blame Socialists & Wackos

Recently, we drove through the central valley of California, which used to be referred to as the "fruit basket" of the United States. This vast area, in some cases of family farms, used to produce most of the fruits and vegetables in the United States for many years. That was then and this is now. Socialists like Obama, Reid, Pelosi, Boxer and Feinstein, the last three from California, and their environmental wacko supporters, have turned off the water that used to flow from Northern California to this fertile agricultural area. The end result is that they are turning the central valley of California into a dust bowl.

Ironically, the California Aqueduct, an architectural marvel, built in the 70's when Ronald Reagan was the Governor of California runs right through the central valley. The California Aqueduct, designed to transport water from Northern California to Southern California and all points in between, stretches 450 miles, through valleys and over mountains. The Aqueduct is actually a cement, man made river that was also designed to be a Sacramento River Delta flood control mechanism. It all worked great until the Socialists and their environmental wacko supporters decided that protecting the Delta Smelt in the Sacramento River Delta is more important than food production, or the thousands of jobs that go with it in the central valley. Today, water to farmers is rationed, which has resulted in thousands of fertile acres in the central valley being taken out of production. In fact, there are fields of dead fruit trees literally right next to the California Aqueduct, where the water is flowing. This action is putting farmers out of business.

Farmers along the highway have posted signs in protest. California has nearly 13% unemployment. Agricultural used to be one of California's major job producing industries, which is now being destroyed by Obama, the Socialists who control Congress and their environmental wacko supporters. Not only is this causing major job losses, foreclosures and bankruptcies, the end result is higher prices for fruits and vegetables because more of our supply must now be imported from Latin America and other parts of the world. In essence, the Socialists are pushing more jobs overseas when we desperately need jobs in California and the US. This is happening at a time when California is desperate for tax revenues to support a $20 Billion deficit. This is crazy.

The Chinese have a saying, "if the back sees the sun, it is food". The Chinese grow and eat virtually everything, except maybe humans in order to feed their billion or more people. The answer to protecting endangered species is to raise them as part of the animal, or human food supply. If the goal is to protect the Delta Smelt, then lets create aquatic farms to grow them just like farmed salmon or trout. They would either be eatable if tasty, or they can be used in fertilizers. Most important, we could even turn this into a new fish growing industry that creates jobs instead of destroying the agricultural jobs in the central valley of California and raising food prices. This would be a free market solution to the problem that creates jobs rather than destroys them.

We absolutely must take back our country in 2010 and 2012 by electing Conservatives and sweeping these loony Socialists out of office. We must make Obama a one term President. We need to elect Conservatives who support free market capitalism, limited government, lower taxes and regulations, a balanced budget, term limits, real energy independence and health care reform, a strong national defense, including securing our borders and fighting Terrorism, the right to bear arms, the sanctity of life and family values. Most important, we must elect Conservatives who support the Constitution, as written by our Founding Fathers, including protecting property rights, rather than as contrived by our current Socialist President, former Presidents, Congresses, or the Courts. We can do it. We will do it for the sake of our child and grandchildren.
