Welfare & Drug Testing

23 states are considering new laws that would require drug testing in order to collect Welfare.   Of course, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) is opposed and they have already filed a legal challenge in Florida.  The ACLU is "against any kind of suspicion less drug testing of any population".  Gosh what a surprise!!   The ACLU generally is a left wing organization that fights every common sense idea in the name of civil liberties.

The fact is that this Blogger's company, along with many others, requires drug testing as a condition of employment.   In addition, we also require random drug testing of existing employees to make sure that we don't have drugs in our workplace.  As such, it is perfectly reasonable that anyone on drugs should not be eligible for tax paper funded Welfare.   Welfare is bad enough and often abused by people that just refuse to work, let alone providing recipients their drug money.

Welfare needs to be turned into Workfare.   Anyone on Welfare should be required to be in a vocational training program to learn a skill, or if they decline the opportunity, they should be forced into work crews to clean up the communities in which they live, as a condition for receiving Welfare.   Like the criminals we sometimes see on the side on the road in Orange suits gathering trash, presumably to get time off their sentences, there is no reason we should have filthy inner cities filled with people collecting Welfare and doing nothing for it.

Certainly, the ACLU would fight the notion of Workfare; but let them do whatever they want in court.   Unless someone on Welfare is mentally or physically disabled, there is absolutely no reason that these people should not be in a vocational training program to learn a skill, or out picking up trash to clean up our cities; their choice.  Further, Welfare specific to able bodied people should be capped at 2 years.   The notion of Welfare for life for able bodied people, if it is happening anywhere in the country, is ridiculous.

Finally, many of the homeless we see on our streets that may be on Welfare are often addicted to drugs, or alcohol, or mentally ill.   The mentally ill should be in half way houses and or preferably cared for by their families.   The Homeless that are addicted to drugs, or alcohol are a menace to themselves and the community at large.   These people should be in programs to end their addiction, as a requirement if they are receiving any kind of Welfare or Food Stamps.  Obviously, what we are doing today is not working, so we need some new thinking related to Welfare and Food Stamps or any other kind of government assistance.  Turning Welfare into Workfare, as has happened in other countries, is the answer.  This is hardly cruel and unusual punishment.

Bleeding heart Socialists, like President Obama and his pals in Congress, refuse to take action to limit Welfare further, or to add a work requirement.   They just want us to pay to support their PEEP's, in this case people on the dole.  In doing so, they hurt the very people they say they are trying to help.   Poverty is a vicious cycle that must be broken.   There is honor and dignity in any kind of work.   It is ridiculous that we have people on Welfare and or Food Stamps, often living in filthy inner cities.   It is time for a Conservative solution to Welfare.  For starters; let's call it Workfare.

We have to take back our country in 2012 and 2014 and when we do so we must begin rolling back 100 years of Socialist Creep.   Welfare is one of those presumably kindly ideas gone bad.   We need new thinking in our country to deal with social problems.  New thinking will never come from Socialists, like President Obama and his pals in government, that live off the misery of the poor, which is just one more reason we must sweep them all out office in 2012 and 2014.

We can do it.   We must do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.  Welfare is just one more program that we must end as we know it.   It is bad enough that more than 50% of Americans pay no income taxes at all and that 70% of them, including illegal aliens, actually get money back from the federal government as a result of the Earned Income Tax Credit.   That last thing we need is more people on Welfare and Food Stamps, who can work, dependent on the rest of us.   It has to stop.
