US Energy Independence - If Not Now When

In 1960, President Kennedy proclaimed that the US would send a man to the moon and return him safely within the decade.  And, sure enough in July, 1969,  the United States achieved this national objective.   It in now time for a Presidential candidate, whether it be Socialist President Obama, or any of the Republican candidates to proclaim that the United States will be completely Energy Independent by no later than 2032; twenty years from now.   As we face $4 or $5 a gallon gasoline, the candidate that makes this announcement will win the Presidency in 2012.

However, it is not enough just to announce this goal; but to back it up with a plan to make it happen.   Unfortunately, Socialist President is hampered by his ties to radical environmentalists, his supporters, that refuse to accept that carbon, or nuclear energy must be part of the solution so it is unlikely that Obama can proclaim this critical goal for our country.   Any of the remaining Republican candidates can make the goal of Energy Independence a reality by saying without hesitation that we will utilize the natural resources of the United States, in environmentally sound ways, to make the United States Energy Independent by 2032.

That means more utilization of oil, clean coal, natural gas, oil and gas shale and nuclear energy, readily available in the United States, along with research to make these sources cleaner, safer and cheaper to raise the standard of living of all Americans.   In addition, funding more research on renewables is also appropriate.   Using natural gas to power our large trucks could happen within 10 years by building the infrastructure on our highways.  Building at least 50 nuclear plants and opening up Yucca Mountain in Nevada should happen as a reprocessing facility to deal with spent fuels.   There is no doubt that with some focus, discipline and passion that the United States could be Energy Independent within 20 years; but it means pushing aside the radical environmentalists that oppose all carbon, or nuclear based energy sources.

Obama will never do it, which is one more reason we must make Obama a one term President.   The fact is that Socialists will never do it, which is why we must sweep Socialists at all levels of government, out of office.   Energy Independence is a national security issue.   We cannot continue our reliance on the unstable Middle East, which is likely to explode into turmoil in the years to come, as is already happening.   We have to get serious about Energy Independence.   We have to take back our country in 2012 and 2014 to make it happen.   We can do it.   We must do it to preserve our freedom, our nation and way of life for the sake of our children and grandchildren.   When John Kennedy proclaimed the goal of going to the moon, no one doubted his resolve.   It is time for a Republican candidate to demonstrate the same resolve related to Energy Independence.   When that happens, that Republican candidate will be assured the nomination and the Presidency in 2012.
